Protein Ranch

Protein Ranch Dressing: (Serves 4)
1 Cup Cottage Cheese (Watch your label, sometimes low fat doesn't mean low calories and the regular cottage cheese is only a few cal. more)
3-4 tsp. Buttermilk Ranch Dressing mix
1/4 C. water (or milk if you prefer: Milk will add more calories) add more water if the consistency is too thick for your liking.

Add ingredients to blender and blend until smooth. (About 3 min.) Enjoy!

    1. If your store has the Lays ranch packets, there is no MSG in them. Lays makes a couple of other flavors too.

    2. You can also make your own ranch seasoning.

    4. No, it isn't "just salt". It is, perhaps, a type of salt, but there are many types of salts, and this particular one is a known trigger for migraine in a fairly large number of people.

    5. Lays is marketed as MSG free, but contains maltodextrin, yeast extract, spices and natural favors. All of which contain hidden MSG. MSG is a highly addictive flavor enhancer and it is linked to obesity, migraines and other diseases.
Don't just take my word for it. Google truth in labeling, or MSG induced obesity.

that said, it is very easy to make your own ranch mix. You probably have everything in your kitchen already. chives, dill and parsley, 2 parts each plus garlic powder and onion powder, 1 part each. salt and pepper to tast.

    7. If you read the ingredients, MSG is clearly in the packet of Lay's Ranch Dip. MSG is a preservative in many foods. People often have a sensitivity to it shown in gastric issues and other ways. MSG stands for monosodium glutamate - it's about the 3rd item listed so you know there's unite a bit.

  10. Just made this, turned out GREAT! I used fat free cottage cheese, and 1/4 cup 2% lactose free milk. Ended up being pretty thick so I addded 1/4 water as well. My total calories ended up being 20 calories per 1/4 cup!

  11. I just made this with full fat, small curd cottage cheese, water, and store-brand ranch dressing mix. I can't believe how great it turned out! I was skeptical that the consistency would be off but nope, it's nice and smooth like regular ranch. And you can make it as thick or as thin as you want. I won't be buying ranch dressing anymore!

  12. hmmm... I was so excited. I only used the water though and it tasted liked blended up cottage cheese. It still had cottage cheese texture. Maybe I should have used milk?

  15. Yummy! This is by far the best low fat Ranch dressing recipe that I have tried. I used plain Greek yogurt for my last experiment and it was pretty good, but this is much better. I used fat free cottage cheese and low-fat buttermilk intead of water and the Hidden Valley Ranch Buttermilk Recipe packet. I also added a whole fresh jalepeno and some fresh cilantro for spicy version of the original. Delish!!!

  16. I am super picky about how my ranch taste, but I just made some of this using fat free cottage cheese, water, and hidden valley packet... YUM! no more buying ranch for me! I actually cut this recipe in half as well, since I live alone and not sure how fast I would use it up... worked amazing!

  17. LOVE this!! I used regular, small curd cottage cheese, 1/2 packet of ranch mix, and water. Then put through my blender because I knew if there were chunks in it I would not full the kiddos or hubby. It worked, they all LOVED it! Looking forward to making my own ranch mix now!

  18. Thank you so much for sharing this. I LOVE it! I hate fat free dressings and pretty much only eat Ranch, but I've had to give it up as I'm trying to watch my calories. Thanks to you I can eat it again!!

  20. At taracooks.com/?p=2293 you will find a great recipe for homemade ranch dressing mix. You can make a batch and keep it in a mason jar. No msg, and all of the ingredients are super easy to find.

  21. I second the recommendation to make your own salad dressing seasoning mix. You can use some of the recipes from the internet, or just make up your own as you go.

Just use whatever you think is best in it: fresh garlic, garlic powder, fresh herbs, dry herbs, parmesan, mustard, avocado, cayenne, bleu cheese, anything, really!

You really don't need a packet from the store to make ranch dressing. They are so expensive (the main reason why I never buy them), and, as many of you have pointed out, they have MSG.

  22. Does anyone know how long this will keep in the fridge? Should you just go by the date on the cottage cheese?

Ranch dressing mix you can buy in bulk. No MSG.

  26. This might be a "duh" sort of thing, but it didn't "click" for me until after the fact. It's dressing, not dip. So if you add the water, it's reeaaally runny for dipping veggies. If you want to use it as veggie dip, you might want to omit the extra liquid. (It tastes yummy, though!)

  30. I made this with unsweetened, plain almond milk instead of milk or water, and Penzy's buttermilk ranch dressing base and it was fabulous! For those worries about preservatives in ranch mix, the Penzy's brand has no MSG or other preservatives. They have a website and sell all kinds of different dressing mixes that might work for those of us with IC. Thank you for the recipe!!
